This is the view of the St. Augustine Lighthouse across the inlet from Vilano Beach.  In the early morning, the low light streams across the live oaks and casts the lighthouse with bright white against the colors of the dark green.  As the day beings, a flight of seagulls sets out for breakfast.

I started this scene of the St. Johns and Intracoastal estuary started as a gouache and watercolor painting.  I added the highlights and texture with pastel.

This small study of the beach in winter was done to capture the colors and atmosphere of the wide beach at low tide.  A few hearty souls have ventured out for a walk.
The painting is mainly watercolor over ink with a few highlights and colors added with light touches of pastel.
