Looking Back II

I have finished a watercolor view of the old Beach Boulevard draw bridge from JTB Boulevard. The bridge has been replace, but I have several drawings and reference photos of it. I have many fond memories of this view and the times spent at this site.

Unfortunately, I loaned my good camera to my daughter for the weekend. This picture was taken with an old camera that doesn't always focus well or capture the right colors.

I'm back from taking care of my parents through Dad's health issues. After more than two weeks away from my easel, it's good to get back to work.



Here is a quick water color of the salt marsh looking back toward the old Beach Boulevard Draw Bridge. I am looking to do a larger work of this view in oil.



I did the last two paintings on a "harder" surfaced watercolor paper. It's new to me, and takes some getting used to.

Taking some time off...

I just found out that my dad is having surgery to repair/replace his main aorta valve on Tuesday. I will probably not be posting any art work for a week or more.

"Dutton Pine"

Reference painting - not for sale

I did this watercolor to adjust the composition of earlier paintings of this pine tree. I was attempting to reduce the amount of information and focus on this tree alone.

I have not done watercolor in some months, and my technique, which was not that good to begin with, has deteriorated. Oh well.

"Afternoon Shadows"

On several occasions, I've painted this view of the old draw bridge across the salt marsh. I am always intrigued by the subtlety of the colors and the softness of the horizon. Unfortunately, this draw bridge has been replaced by a larger, permanent span, but my old drawings and reference photos keep me coming back.

This particular painting was a challenge because I kept getting interrupted and sidetracked.

Fits and starts

The last few days have been punctuated and interrupted by a dozen odd and demanding tasks. Little painting has been done, and nothing has been completed.
I've been reading an interesting book, "Mastering Composition" by Ian Roberts. I believe it will be very helpful in drawing my painting to another level (no pun intended, really).
I will be getting back to painting tomorrow. I have a small 8x6 saltmarsh the I should finish early tomorrow.

After a busy week-end and a Monday morning putting out plants and doing yard work, I got back to doing some lemon slices. I have been intrigued by the translucent yellows, oranges, and grays that they present.
