"Windy July, Sea Oats"

Sumi ink on paper, 9x12

As an exercise, I use sumi ink on "rice" paper. The nature of the ink, brush, and paper force me to discipline my mind while I release my expression and motions.

In July, the sea oats hold their heads high and bend their long stems in unison to the sea breeze.

Odd Fellows

Ink on kozo; 9.5x12

This painting was done with ink only - working with different intensities of the ink for effect.  The paper is inexpensive, very absorbent, and sometimes difficult to manage.  As it tries my patience, it forces me to concentrate on the process of applying the brush to the paper.

Green Candles II

Ink & Watercolor on kozo - 12x18

Pine Study 05 - ink on paper 18x12

In this study, I added a pine cone - something I haven't done for years.  It's like renewing old friendships.

The color balance on this photo is a little too blue/green.  There is a storm coming and the light was not good.  I'll retake this later if it seems appropriate.
